Lorena Martinez
Senior Manager of Quality Assessment
Lorena Martinez joined the Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU) team as the assistant director of compliance and support. She brings more than 20 years of doping control experience to the HIWU team. In January 2025, she transitioned to the role of senior manager of quality assessment.
Martinez oversees and maintains relationships with state racing commissions. She focuses on the day-to-day operations of enforcing the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority’s Anti-Doping and Medication Control Program on race days and troubleshooting as needed.
As a lead doping control officer and educator for the United States Anti-Doping Agency, Martinez focused on Olympic, Paralympic, Pan American, and other elite athletes. Among her responsibilities were logistics and planning of test missions according to required protocols, target testing, education of athletes on anti-doping protocols, and education of local schools and youth sports programs interested in learning about clean sport.
Martinez received Bachelor of Arts degrees in history and journalism from Long Beach State University.
