Jared Shafer

Senior Manager of Testing Strategies

Formerly the testing strategies manager, Jared Shafer currently serves as the senior manager of testing strategies for the Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU), a division of Drug Free Sport International (DFSI). He was previously the director of U.S. network for DFSI.

In his role, Shafer builds, adapts, and applies the HIWU test distribution plan for all test samples. He communicates with internal testing operations colleagues and with all tracks operating under the jurisdiction of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority’s Anti-Doping and Medication Control Program.

While in his previous position at DFSI, Shafer oversaw the National Basketball Association’s anti-doping program so that it operated at a high level of efficiency and quality. While serving as an eligibility representative with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, he evaluated more than 500 student-athlete eligibility cases.

Shafer graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a Master of Science degree in sports management.
