HIWU Investigator
Brian Bennett joined the Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU) team as an investigator in February 2023. In this role, he conducts investigations as part of enforcement of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority’s Anti-Doping and Medication Control Program. This includes collaborating with relevant constituencies and HIWU staff to ensure thorough, timely, and unbiased investigations are conducted on suspected and alleged violations of the Program.
Previously, Bennett spent 17 years with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office in the Bureau of Investigation. He was responsible for investigating, supervising, and managing organized crime investigations and high-profile major crimes investigations, including the investigative activities associated with the string of fatalities at Santa Anita Park in 2019. He served in the roles of senior investigator, sergeant, lieutenant, and captain in the organization.
Bennett was also with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for 17 years, where he held stints as field training officer, academy staff instructor, station detective, and field supervisor.
Bennett received a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice management from Union Institute and University.
